The Jesus & Mary Chain - “About You”
Of course J&MC is one of my favorite bands, and this song is &*%$ brilliant, but this post is really about “High Fidelity”:
Barry: It’s almost impossible to find, especially on CD. Yet another cruel trick on all of the dumbasses who got rid of their turntables. But every other Echo and the Bunnymen album…
Customer: I have all the others.
Barry: Oh, really? How about the Jesus and Mary Chain?
Customer: They always seemed…
Barry: They always seemed what? They always seemed really great is what they always seemed. They picked up where your precious Echo left off, and you’re sitting around complaining about no more Echo albums. I can’t believe you don’t own this fucking record. (tosses the record to the customer and walks away) That’s insane. Jesus.
Perfect. And, of course, there’s also this line:
Barry: Don’t tell anyone you don’t own “Blonde on Blonde”. It’s gonna be okay.
Yes! Both the book by Nick Hornby and the movie are a real treat for condescending music snobs like me music lovers all around, and since today is the 10th anniversary of the movie, chronologicalsnobbery is holding a week-long celebration [read the 1st post here].
